I'm eating my words now (though I knew I probably would). After having SO many friends and family members tell me I would love Twilight, I was skeptical but starting to believe them. Just as I suspected, I got totally engrossed in the book. And, well, I kind of finished it yesterday. Oops! Didn't savor that one a bit! I could have put it down and taken more time to read it, but I partly wanted to just get it over with so I could end the distraction from all the projects and housework that needs to get done around here. I really enjoyed it. The book just really has a way of creating a strong anticipation for more, and then the pace picks up. There were a few things I thought could be different, but no major complaints. I won't talk about it more than that (unless you've read it and want to e-mail or call me to chat) because I wouldn't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read it. There's nothing I despise MORE than a spoiler!!!
I think it's funny how my sister has been telling me how much more romantic I will feel toward my husband. I've heard that husbands complain while their wives are reading these books because they ignore the house/kids, etc., but it's worth it to them in the end because their wives pay so much attention to them afterward from having all those romantic thoughts in their heads. Yet, when Beth told her husband I had finished the book in less than a week, he said, "Oh. Tell Grant I'm sorry." :)
I'm probably picking up the second book from a friend this evening; so much for getting the distraction over with ~guilty snicker~!
I totally understand. I am another one of those sucked-in-and-didn't-want-to-be-part-of-the-Twilight-fan-groupies. Alas, here I am. I'm almost finished with her 4th book, The Host. Also a book you can't put down, but for different reasons. Anyway, if you want the third book, I have it and will lend it to you. Addicting, I tell you. Addicting. At least it's not harmful...
ReplyDeleteDon't feel sheepish...but I will say...I am in the same boat as you were. And now I've made such a big deal about it that I CAN'T read it...even if I decided I wanted too! Glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteyes... addicting is the perfect word. I got The Host for Mother's day and I finished it on Tuesday. My poor kids pretty much wore their pajamas for two days straight. tee-hee. i have no self-discipline whatsoever. i can't wait for book number 4 of the twilight series, coming out in August. so hurry up and read the next two in the series, Jocelyn. we can read the fourth book together during the family reunion and totally ignore everyone else the entire time.
ReplyDeleteJoce, Joce, Joce...The worst part about something like that is it will end, you want it to end so you know the whole story, but you don't want it to because it's so interesting and you don't know what you'll do with your life once it's finished. Life is cruel!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you posted this because I absolutely LOVE these books. I finally got my sister to get them from the library and she mentioned that she had a hard time taking them back. I also just had one of my friends read it and she was skeptical at first too. The writing on the other two books just gets better and better, too! I'm glad you read them! hehehe

ReplyDeleteThe reason for Paul's comment is that despite the romantice perks - you've only finished the 1st book. There are 2 more to go!! Good luck with those house projects! ;)
Hey Jocelyn,
ReplyDeleteI knew you would love it if you gave it a chance. I'm so glad you have finally crossed over to the Twilighters side. We are a proud group. Beth tells me that you have resisted the urge to read the first chapter of NEW MOON that is at the end of the book. You are very brave and strong and I bow to you. Too bad you don't live in Utah, now I won't be able to drag you to the movie with me and Beth in December. I know you hate it when they make movies this soon, but if you saw the teaser trailer, you wouldn't be able to resist!! Anyway, have fun reading the other two books, I know you won't be disappointed.
Kari told me about these... and I've now dragged all of my Vermont friends in too! They are such fun reads.
ReplyDeleteYeah I was totally against reading them because i thought first sci-fi boring, then vampires scary! But i finally read the first and I think it was in less then a week and then I just finished the second today in 2 1/2 days. Chris had to beg me to put it down. Read the second one, but personally I thought the first was better. The second is still good once you get through the first 50 pages it picks up a bit too! I definetly won't see the movie though, I would have nightmares for months!!
ReplyDeletei knew you would love the books! even when you still weren't sure at the beach house, i knew it was just a little more time! :) congrats on being sucked in. its a wonderful life here in twilight groupie land.
