Eleanor has been really concerned about death ever since our dog died. She also often tells me how much she misses Lane. The other day in the car, she was telling me she was sad because she would never get to see Lane again. I told her she would get to see him again when she went back to Heaven. That brought up some of the usual questions:
E: When I die?
Me: Yes, when you die, you will see him again.
E: Mommy, when will I die?
Me: Hopefully, not for a long, long time, but everyone dies some time.
E: And when I die, will I see Lane, waiting there for me by Jesus’ leg?
I immediately imagined a picture of my dopey dog, sitting happily by Jesus’ leg, waiting to greet Eleanor in Heaven. I laughed inwardly as I told her that, yes, Lane would be waiting for her by Jesus’ leg.
I just love the sweet, simple faith of a child. I never would have thought to picture our dog sitting by Jesus as he waits out the years for us, but I suppose that’s just how it will look when we get there. Oh, how I love her innocence!
I loved this blog, it made me tear up. How sweet and what a hopeful thought.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Sacrament is being passed out, I keep quizzing the kiddos on WHY we think about Jesus' body and blood as we take the bread and water.
ReplyDeleteWhen we discuss the fact that everyone will be resurrected, Bruise will ask, "When will Gingi be resurrected? When I'm five?"
And I have to tell him that I really don't know, that it'll be when Jesus comes again and that we don't know when that will be.
"But that's a long, long time!!"
And then I get all teary-eyed and agree with him. Yes, we miss our Gingi-cat. Still.
But I totally agree. It's awesome that they have such faith. It makes me feel like I must be doing SOMETHING right as a mom. ^_^
