Eleanor

I think all I’m going to manage this month is the pictures.

What Eleanor would rather be doing than having her picture taken.

Phaedra

Just pictures this month.

Always Look on the Bright Side of Your Life

  • I have changed many poopy diapers, but I have never had to change a poopy pair of panties (knock on wood).
  • Phaedra won’t be teething forever.
  • Sooner or later, things like my lost hair comb, phone, car keys . . . always turn up.
  • Phaedra will eventually stop being obsessed with playing in the toilet water.
  • At least Grant isn’t out of town; he will be home some time this evening, even if it is late.
  • The slow progress Grant makes on his graduate degree is still progress.
  • After the kids go to bed, I get a few rare moments of time to myself.
  • Someday, cheering up my kids won’t be as easy as giving them a piece of ice, plopping them into the bathtub, or changing the sheets and letting them play on the bed.
  • Eventually, Phaedra will figure out that when you wash your hands, you don’t put the hand soap in your hair.
  • Eventually, Phaedra won’t put all her food in her hair.
  • Luckily, we have a shower and a kitchen sink with a sprayer so I can wash Phaedra’s hair without taking her clothes off.
  • At least I don’t have to work so I’m not missing out on all these “fun” moments that will never come again.
  • Someday, I won’t have to negotiate with Eleanor about dinner.
  • Eleanor won’t always ask me “why?” about everything.
  • Even when I’m grouchy and I snap at Eleanor about putting her fingers in her mouth (which I have had to ask her many times to stop), she comes over to me and kisses my arm.
  • When we sit down to eat lunch together, Eleanor turns to me and asks, “Mommy, are you having a good day?” Even if I previously felt otherwise, hearing her sweet question makes me say yes, and it quickly becomes true.DSC_0103
  • Maybe, just maybe, Eleanor will remember that one time when she and Phaedra were making a mess and I didn’t get upset because they were having so much fun throwing socks on the floor.

  • Once in a while, the heavens shine down upon me, and my girls actually clean up a mess they have made without me having to beg, threaten, or bribe. DSC_0128
  • Even though it took so long to get my girls cleaned up to try to take them outside to get some pictures of them that I missed my window of opportunity before the sunshine disappeared, I got this one picture today. I think it’s a keeper.

  • Someday, they will have children of their own.
