Keeping Cool

Summer is busy! I can’t seem to keep up with anything, but we’ve been having so much fun.

It has been HOT around here. We’ve had weather in the 100s and high 90s since last weekend. It is a little cooler today, but the next few days are supposed to be in the high 80s again. Next week should be better. We Oregonians just can’t handle that kind of heat!

On Monday, to beat the heat, we went to Studio Grandma’s for dinner since they have a grill that wouldn’t heat up the kitchen. We supplied the meat, and they supplied the heat. As soon as we got there, I let the girls (who had been so good while I dragged them around on errands) run through the sprinklers. We brought Phaedra’s flower sprinkler she got for one of her birthdays. I fed Curtis dinner outside, and the whole time, he was just itching to get down into the water with the girls.

When he was all finished, I just let him go for it. I didn’t even bother getting his swimsuit. That boy was tired of me holding him back after I had been so rude and made him finish his dinner before he could go cool down. We turned the sprinkler way down low for him, and he loved it! He was just laughing and screaming. I didn’t have my camera, but I took some pictures with Grant’s phone. I should have gotten a video, but I didn’t think about it at the time.2012-08-06 18.43.432012-08-06 18.44.062012-08-06 18.44.122012-08-06 18.44.182012-08-06 18.44.282012-08-06 18.44.47

As an update, I noticed on July 28th that Curtis’s top front teeth had finally cut through the gums. He had been working on those two terrible teeth since at least mid-June! He’s been fascinated with how they feel in his mouth. I often look at him and think he’s holding something in his mouth only to find that he was just holding his mouth funny because he was exploring the feel of his new teeth.

Last week, I noticed that Curtis is beginning to stand without holding on to things. He only does it briefly, and usually when he doesn’t realize he’s doing it. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he’ll be coming after us with that wobbly toddler walk. This boy is growing up so fast!
