Milestones

I wanted to jot these down while I have a moment. I’ve really been kicking myself for not recording more of Curtis’ milestones.

Yesterday, for the very first time, Curtis rolled from his back onto his tummy all by himself. He was trying very hard to reach a toy, and he rolled over to get to it. We won’t have too much trouble with him getting into things anytime soon: he still doesn’t roll from tummy to back. He was pretty pleased with himself, though. I should have taken a picture.

Also yesterday, we had a breakthrough with spoon feeding. We started spoon feeding him on Saturday, introducing some rice cereal. He was not very impressed with my trying to put a spoon in his mouth, and he wasn’t very good at swallowing. Last night, I was giving him applesauce for the 2nd day in a row. Something clicked. He wasn’t making faces about the taste like the day before, and he was actually swallowing some of the bites (many of the other bites came right back out, but he was trying). He even eagerly opened his mouth for the spoon. Well, it was a kind of open/shut/wanting to suck motion, but it let me know he wanted it and gave me a chance to get it in there. That is probably the fastest any of my kids have gotten excited about spoon feeding. He probably ate almost 1/2 an ounce of apples. This morning with rice cereal was no different.

It’s a good thing he’s doing a good job with the solids now because we are sleep training him this Friday. There’s just no way around it; his nights have gone from bad to worse. His parents are zombies. The only thing that could stop it from happening now is if he gets very sick between now and then. He was our best sleeper until about 4 months old (he slept through the night quite often from 2 months on), and that all changed. At least he was good for us for a while. Hopefully after Friday, he’ll be a good little sleeper again. Wish us luck! Wish him comforting, self-soothing thoughts!

  1. Jack was a lovely sleeper until the moment he turned 4 months! He got sleep trained much earlier than I anticipated. Good luck, it's so worth it for everyone to sleep!
