She's been trying to say the word, potty, for about a month now. She would even say it repeatedly while trying to pull down her pants. To humor her, I would strip her down to a bare bottom and hold her over our toilet. She would immediately protest the situation and we would be done. So, I finally dragged this potty out of the garage; it's one we got as a hand-me-down from someone at Grant's work. I made sure it was cleaned thoroughly before bringing it near her. For a while, I kept it out where she plays so she could go sit on it whenever she wanted. She mostly played with it, taking it apart, putting it back together, and filling it with small toys. I recently moved it into the bathroom since I was tired of having a most of the time dismantled potty in my living room. She has been sitting on it more now. She sits on it whenever I go to the bathroom, and yesterday, she was taking little pieces of toilet paper and holding them to herself. So, I guess we'll see if we ever get to the point where she sits there with no pants on. I'm not going to push it. I think I'm less ready for potty training than she is.
I'd actually like to get a new potty. Besides the fact that this is a hand me down, (which makes me feel a little squeamish inside, but I suppose I can handle it) it's a rather large potty, and our bathroom doesn't have much space to spare. I'd like to look for a smaller one. The baby bjorn potties look nice and small; I might like to have one of those. I'm appealing to all moms who read this to give me potty feedback. I want a potty that is as small as possible and functional, too. I don't want one she'll have a hard time sitting on, and I don't want things sloshing around while I try to access the bowl and dump it- if you know what I mean- no sloshing! So give me your opinions, please.
I have the baby bjorn potty and it's really small. Our bathroom is long and skinny with not alot of room in it either. I ordered mine from Target.com. they didn't have it in the stores.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! She will really apreciate those pictures someday ;) Hahaha, and sorry, no potty training advice from me. The only experience I've had is with a dog, and to be honest Brett did most of the work. Heehee
ReplyDeleteWe got our little potty at Walmart, and it's pretty small. Plus you don't have to pick up the whole thing to dump it, it just has a little basin you take out separately - and it transitions into a seat that fits onto the regular toilet and a stool. But let me tell you, as I've been going through potty training the last 2 weeks, definitely wait until she's over 2 and can totally undress herself - it makes it a lot easier!
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, I'm in no hurry. It's not a part of parenting I've been looking forward to!
