Reminders

I know this has been all over the web, but I wanted to post it for those who might not have seen it. Stephanie Nielson is an amazing woman. She has gone through so much, and her faith is stronger because of it.

I can’t watch this video without tearing up. It has really served as a reminder for me to keep an eternal perspective, to be grateful for what I have, and to enjoy each day I have with my family.

I have struggled lately with feelings of inadequacy. Sometimes, I measure my progress by impossible standards, so I just end up feeling overwhelmed by where I am in relation to where I want to be. I am so grateful for the guidance given to us during General Conference. I have been reviewing some of the talks, and I found this passage by Julie B. Beck:

Good women always have a desire to know if they are succeeding. In a world where the measures of success are often distorted, it is important to seek appreciation and affirmation from proper sources. To paraphrase a list found in Preach My Gospel, we are doing well when we develop attributes of Christ and strive to obey His gospel with exactness. We are doing well when we seek to improve ourselves and do our best. We are doing well when we increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help others who are in need. We know we are successful if we live so that we qualify for, receive, and know how to follow the Spirit. When we have done our very best, we may still experience disappointments, but we will not be disappointed in ourselves. We can feel certain that the Lord is pleased when we feel the Spirit working through us. Peace, joy, and hope are available to those who measure success properly.

You can read her entire talk by clicking HERE. It really helped me to read these words and be reminded how I should be measuring my progress. I think I tend to forget that I don’t have to be perfect at everything all at once, as long as I’m doing my best.

  1. Jocelyn don't you ever feel inadequate. I am in awe of what you do and how you write so beautifully about the joys and trials of everyday life. What a treasure you are giving your girls. Your photography is amazing and your girls show the love and attention you give them.

    I think you are amazing.
